Cisco announced today its intent to acquire San Jose, California-based Viptela Inc, a developer of software-defined wide area network technology. Cisco agreed to pay $610 million in cash and assumed equity awards. The acquisition is expected to close in the second half of 2017. Viptela, founded in 2012, had raised $108.5 million in venture funding, according to Thomson Reuters. Investors include Sequoia Capital, Northgate Capital and Redline Capital.
