Angela Rippon tests positive for opiates in poppy seed experiment
Presenter ate poppy seed bread after a contributor to Rip Off Britain: Food said he had been sacked over failed drug test
She isn’t the first TV presenter you might associate with a drugs test, but Angela Rippon has tested positive for opiates after eating poppy seeds in a loaf of bread.
The test picked up the presence of morphine, derived from opium, after Rippon ate a loaf of poppy seed bread and a poppy seed bagel over the course of three days for the fourth series of Rip Off Britain: Food.

KUALA LUMPUR: Seorang suspek kes pecah amanah yang melarikan sebuah kenderaan polis di USJ Taipan, Subang Jaya dekat sini pada 19 Mei lepas ditahan di Jalan Pekeliling, Kota Bharu, Kelantan awal pagi ini.
Ketua Polis Daerah Subang Jaya ACP Mohammad Azlin Sadari, berkata suspek lelaki berumur 32 tahun itu ditahan oleh anggota Jabatan Siasatan Jenayah Komersial Bukit Aman jam 3.30 pagi.
“Suspek ditahan bersabit kes penipuan pinjaman tidak wujud yang membabitkan lima kes di Kelantan,” katanya dalam satu kenyataan di sini, hari ini.
Pada 19 Mei lalu, suspek yang ditahan di Kota Bharu itu telah melarikan diri dengan memandu kereta jenis Proton Preve berwarna kelabu kira-kira 9 malam sebelum meninggalkan kenderaan itu di sebuah kawasan berdekatan Persiaran Kewajipan di USJ 5, Subang Jaya.
Ketua Polis Selangor, Datuk Seri Abdul Samah Mat, dalam sidang media berkata ketika dalam perjalanan ke Ibu Pejabat Polis Daerah Subang Jaya dari Kelantan, suspek mengadu tidak sihat dan mendakwa mempunyai penyakit gastrik serta mengalami muntah-muntah.
Katanya, anggota polis yang memandu kenderaan itu kemudian memberhentikan kereta di sebuah kedai serbaneka dan farmasi di sekitar USJ Taipan untuk membeli makanan serta ubat untuk suspek.
“Semasa seorang anggota kita pergi ke farmasi, seorang lagi ke but kereta untuk mengambil tisu dan kain bagi mencuci muntah suspek di dalam kereta. Ketika itulah suspek yang tangannya bergari di depan telah melompat ke bahagian pemandu sebelum melarikan kereta polis itu,” katanya. – BERNAMA/BHarian

KEMENTERIAN Dalam Negeri (KDN) akan memanggil Ketua Pengarang The Star esok untuk memberi penjelasan terhadap muka depan akhbar berbahasa Inggeris itu yang didakwa tidak sensitif kepada umat Islam di negara ini.
Ketua Setiausaha KDN Datuk Seri Alwi Ibrahim berkata, pihaknya juga tidak teragak-agak mengambil tindakan sewajarnya terhadap akhbar terbabit sekiranya tidak berpuas hati penjelasan yang diberikan.
“Kita amat dukacita dengan tindakan akhbar berkenaan memaparkan gambar umat Islam sedang menunaikan solat Terawih pada malam pertama Ramadan sambil tajuk muka depannya ‘Malaysian terrorist leader’.
“Atas sebab itu, esok kita akan memanggil ketua pengarang akhbar berkenaan untuk memberi penjelasan dan sekiranya jawapan diberikan tidak memuaskan hati, kita akan kenakan tindakan termasuk mengeluarkan surat tunjuk sebab,” katanya.
Beliau berkata demikian pada sidang media pada Program Penerapan Nilai-Nilai Murni Timbalan Perdana Menteri bersama warga KDN, di Kuala Nerus, hari ini. – Metro
