The Ingwe local municipality’s former mayor, former municipal manager and two ward councillors have been arrested on corruption charges.
The KwaZulu-Natal officials appeared in court last Tuesday (April 25 2017) said Hawks spokesperson Captain Simphiwe Mhlongo.
Mhlongo said members of the Hawks Anti-Corruption Task Team arrested Bongekile Dlamini and Zamambo Mkhize who were allegedly receiving illegal social grants from Sassa. Almost R35 000 was lost by Sassa.
The two men appeared in the Durban Specialised Commercial Crime Court last Tuesday. They were granted bail of R2 000 each. The case was postponed to June.
