China Indicts Former Statistics Bureau Director Wang for Bribery
Wang Baoan, former head of China’s National Bureau of Statistics, was indicted on suspicion of accepting bribes, the official Xinhua News Agency reported Tuesday.
Wang is accused of taking advantage of his posts as NBS chief and assistant and vice finance minister to benefit others, and “illegally accepting a huge amount of money and property” either by himself or through others, Xinhua said, citing the Supreme People’s Procuratorate. The report Tuesday didn’t include any reference to the accuracy of Chinese economic data.

Asia Olympic chief quits FIFA role over bribery scandal
Sheikh Ahmad Al-Fahad Al-Ahmed Al-Sabah, the FIFA Council member who also runs the Olympic Council of Asia, said on Sunday he was resigning all his posts in football after being drawn into the latest bribery scandal to hit the game’s governing body.
The Kuwaiti issued a statement on Saturday “strongly” denying that he was one of the Asian Football Confederation officials described in U.S. Court documents as allegedly bribing a member of FIFA’s audit and compliance committee, Richard Lai.

S’porean jailed in US over sanctions fraud
A Singaporean man has been sentenced in the US to 40 months in prison for helping to ship American-made radio frequency modules to Iran that were eventually found in bombs in Iraq.
Lim Yong Nam, 43, also known as Steven Lim, pleaded guilty in December in Washington to fraud charges related to US sanctions violations for helping to route 6,000 modules through Singapore to Iran, reported Agence France-Presse.

China jails former Baoshan Iron & Steel official for 17 years for graft
A court in China on Friday jailed a former chairman of Baoshan Iron and Steel, who went on to become vice mayor of Shanghai, to 17 years for bribery and graft, a state broadcaster reported.
President Xi Jinping has waged war on graft for more than four years, vowing that all corrupt officials, from powerful “tigers” to lowly “flies”, will be weeded out, and warning that a failure to do so could threaten the ruling Communist Party.

Olympus scandal: Former bosses to pay $529m over fraud
The camera and medical equipment firm brought the case against ex-chairman Tsuyoshi Kikukawa and 15 others.
A Tokyo court found Kikukawa and five others liable for $529m.The ruling comes comes six years after former chief executive Michael Woodford exposed his colleagues for falsifying accounts to conceal losses of $1.7bn.

KPK summons Quran procurement graft suspect
The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) summoned Golkar Youth Generation (AMPG) chairman Fahd El Fouz on Friday for questioning as a suspect in a graft case related to Quran procurement at the Religious Affairs Ministry.
Fahd was named a suspect on Thursday.
