HARD Goals, Not SMART Goals, Are The Key To Career Development

http://ift.tt/eA8V8J
Everyone has set SMART Goals (most commonly defined as Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic, and Time-bound). But the research shows that while SMART Goals are ubiquitous, they’re not particularly effective. So to help yourself and others have a great career, you need to try HARD Goals.

The $14 million McLaren F1 supercar is now 25 years old

http://ift.tt/2qMASD7

McLaren F1 LM

Last Sunday, the legendary McLaren F1 supercar turned 25.

For most, it’s hard to believe the iconic marvel of engineering is a full quarter century old.

To this day, the F1’s modern design and speed demon performance stand up to the test of time.

“The F1 is a technological tour de force and a real triumph in terms of packaging and design,” Former McLaren Automotive executive chairman Ron Dennis said in a statement in 2010. “Whether endurance racing or on road, it is supremely fast, agile, and yet comfortable. Its styling is enduring and will never fade.”

Over a period of six years, including race cars, only 106 McLaren F1s were ever built. The rarity and iconic status of the model mean they command a king’s ransom these days. A couple of years ago, comedian Jay Leno told Business Insider that someone once offered $11 million cash for his F1. The comedy legend and car collector politely declined that offer.

In 2015, a McLaren F1 belonging to comedian Rowan Atkinson sold for $12 million even though it had been destroyed and rebuilt on two separate occasions. Later that year, a converted LM spec F1 sold for $13.75 million at auction in Monterey, California.

Here’s a closer look at the automotive marvel that is the McLaren F1.

The McLaren F1 was born from the racing team founded by legendary driver Bruce McLaren.

The team has dominated Formula One racing — winning 182 races and eight World Championships.

Is ICF International (ICFI) a Great Stock for Value Investors?

http://ift.tt/2sa04k6

Value investing is easily one of the most popular ways to find great stocks in any market environment. After all, who wouldn’t want to find stocks that are either flying under the radar and are compelling buys, or offer up tantalizing discounts when compared to fair value?

One way to find these companies is by looking at several key metrics and financial ratios, many of which are crucial in the value stock selection process. Let’s put ICF International, Inc. ICFI stock into this equation and find out if it is a good choice for value-oriented investors right now, or if investors subscribing to this methodology should look elsewhere for top picks:

PE Ratio

A key metric that value investors always look at is the Price to Earnings Ratio, or PE for short. This shows us how much investors are willing to pay for each dollar of earnings in a given stock, and is easily one of the most popular financial ratios in the world. The best use of the PE ratio is to compare the stock’s current PE ratio with: a) where this ratio has been in the past; b) how it compares to the average for the industry/sector; and c) how it compares to the market as a whole.

On this front, ICF International has a trailing twelve months PE ratio of 15.75, as you can see in the chart below:

This level actually compares pretty favorably with the market at large, as the PE for the S&P 500 compares in at about 20.19. If we focus on the stock’s long-term PE trend, the current level puts ICF International’s current PE ratio marginally above its midpoint (which is 15.69) over the past five years.

Further, the stock’s PE also compares favorably with the Zacks classified Government Services industry’s trailing twelve months PE ratio, which stands at 20.98. At the very least, this indicates that the stock is relatively undervalued right now, compared to its peers.

We should also point out that ICF International has a forward PE ratio (price relative to this year’s earnings) of just 15.55, so it is fair to say that a slightly more value-oriented path may be ahead for ICF International stock in the near term too.

P/S Ratio

Another key metric to note is the Price/Sales ratio. This approach compares a given stock’s price to its total sales, where a lower reading is generally considered better. Some people like this metric more than other value-focused ones because it looks at sales, something that is far harder to manipulate with accounting tricks than earnings.

Right now, ICF International has a P/S ratio of about 0.75. This is significantly lower than the S&P 500 average, which comes in at 3.12 right now. Also, as we can see in the chart below, this is somewhat below the highs for this stock in particular over the past few years.

If anything, ICF International is towards the higher end of its range in the time period from a P/S metric, which suggests that the company’s stock price has already appreciated to some degree, relative to its sales.

Broad Value Outlook

In aggregate, ICF International currently has a Zacks Value Style Score of ‘A’, putting it into the top 20% of all stocks we cover from this look. This makes ICFI a solid choice for value investors, and some of its other key metrics make this pretty clear too.

For example, the PEG ratio for ICF International is just 1.33, a level that is somewhat lower than the industry average of 1.60. The PEG ratio is a modified PE ratio that takes into account the stock’s earnings growth rate. Clearly, ICFI is a solid choice on the value front from multiple angles.

What About the Stock Overall?

Though ICF International might be a good choice for value investors, there are plenty of other factors to consider before investing in this name. In particular, it is worth noting that the company has a Growth grade of ‘D’ and a Momentum score of ‘D’. This gives ICFI a Zacks VGM score—or its overarching fundamental grade—of ‘B’. (You can read more about the Zacks Style Scores here >>)

Meanwhile, the company’s recent earnings estimates have been mixed at best. The current quarter has seen two estimates go higher in the past sixty days and two lower, while the full year estimate has seen five upward and no downward revisions in the same time period.

This has had a mixed impact on the consensus estimate, as the current quarter consensus estimate has dipped 1.4% in the past two months, while the full year estimate has risen by about 2%. You can see the consensus estimate trend and recent price action for the stock in the chart below:

ICF International, Inc. Price and Consensus

ICF International, Inc. Price and Consensus | ICF International, Inc. Quote

Despite this somewhat mixed trend, the stock has a Zacks Rank #2 (Buy) on the back of its strong value metrics and this is why we are expecting above-average performance from the company in the near-term.

Bottom Line

ICF International is an inspired choice for value investors, as it is hard to beat its incredible lineup of statistics on this front. With a formidable industry rank (top 16% out of more than 250 industries) and strong Zacks Rank, ICF International looks like a strong value contender. In fact, over the past one year, the Zacks Government Services sector has clearly outperformed the broader market, as you can see below:

So, it might pay for value investors to delve deeper into the company’s prospects, as fundamentals indicate that this stock could be a compelling pick.

Dumbphone! Can I survive modern life with the original Nokia 3310?

http://ift.tt/2rjAsDd

2848.jpg?w=300&q=55&auto=format&usm=12&f

The classic mobile has been relaunched as a distraction-free device. We dug out a device from 2000 to see how it rates in 2017

Last week saw the launch of Nokia’s new incarnation of its classic 3310 mobile phone. The original, which first appeared 17 years ago, was immensely popular – 100m handsets sold – and there is an obvious nostalgic appeal in a cheap retro copy, complete with an updated version of the game Snake. Reviews suggest the £49.99 3310 would make the perfect “festival phone” – meaning, I guess, that if you dropped it into a lake of mud at 3am, you wouldn’t mind too much.

The interest in the 3310 also feels a bit like longing: a wish to return to a simpler time, when a phone was just a phone, when batteries never ran out, and the world – emails, the news, Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, every song ever recorded – didn’t come with you when you went somewhere. Back then, if you sat staring at your phone screen on a Tube platform, people thought you were a simpleton; there was nothing to look at. I do not consider myself to be terribly technology-dependent – the most transformative aspect of my smartphone is the fact that wherever I go, I always have a torch with me – but who wouldn’t want to return to that time, if only for a visit? I certainly would. Count me in.
