WhiteSource picks up $10 mln Series B

http://ift.tt/1TjfCtE

New York City, Boston and Israel-based WhiteSource, a provider of continuous open source software security and compliance management, has secured $10 million in Series B financing. The lead investor was 83North with additional participation from Microsoft Ventures and David Strohm of Greylock Partners.

PRESS RELEASE

June 14, 2017 — New York and Tel Aviv, Israel — WhiteSource, the leader in continuous open source software security and compliance management, today announced a $10M Series B financing round led by 83North, with additional participation from Microsoft Ventures and individual investor David Strohm of Greylock Partners. The new funding will help WhiteSource expand its market leadership in open source security and compliance solutions.

Application development has undergone a revolution in recent years as organizations embrace open source software, in some cases making up to 80 percent of the code base. These practices not only reduce cost and accelerate delivery times, but also introduce management challenges and security vulnerabilities. Some of the most publicized security breaches of recent years, such as the Heartbleed bug, were introduced through the deployment of vulnerable open source components.

Founded by three serial entrepreneurs, Ron Rymon, Azi Cohen and Rami Sass, WhiteSource grew revenues 300 percent year-over-year for the last three years by tapping the need to better track and secure open source assets. The strong offering has also been recognized by Forrester, who recently ranked WhiteSource as a “strong performer” among all Software Composition Analysis (SCA) offerings in its 2017 Wave report.

“The investment in WhiteSource follows our conviction that the rapid acceptance of open source software, which now comprises most of the new code in SMBs and enterprises, is not well managed,” said Erez Ofer, Partner at 83North. “This issue is exacerbated as companies employ DevOps to reduce time- to-market, increasing the need for a comprehensive solution like WhiteSource’s”.

WhiteSource’s namesake solution secures and manages open source components of hundreds of enterprises and SMBs around the world. It empowers customers to fully control open source usage with real-time alerts, reports and automated enforcement of policies across the DevOps continuous process.

“Our vision from the outset was to help organizations safely, securely and continuously adopt, manage and deploy open source components,” stated Rami Sass, Co-founder and CEO of WhiteSource. “We are a first mover, and through nonstop innovation, have built a solution that monitors code components in real-time to become an integral part of the DevOps cycle.”

“Microsoft is committed to strengthening its relationship with the open source community,” said Mony Hassid, general manager and managing director, Microsoft Ventures EMEA. “As a Whitesource partner, we’ve seen firsthand the value its open source security and compliance solutions bring to enterprises.

Our investment in its technology is a testimonial of our drive to make open source software practical, productive and secure.”

Pound Retreats Amid U.K. Political Uncertainty

http://ift.tt/eA8V8J

The British pound retreated from recent highs against other major currencies in the European session on Thursday, as traders became cautious after the latest election news that signaled a hung parliament.

A Times/YouGov poll showed that Britain’s ruling Conservatives are still leading Labour by three points ahead of June 8 election.

Investors keenly await Friday’s U.S. non-farm payrolls numbers, as a positive report could pave the way for a rate hike in mid-June.

The currency rose earlier following the release of upbeat U.K. manufacturing PMI report. But, the currency retreated in a short while.

Data from IHS Markit and the Chartered Institute of Procurement & Supply showed that the U.K. manufacturing sector growth moderated in May from a three-year high. The factory Purchasing Managers’ Index fell to 56.7 in May from 57.3 in April. Nonetheless, the score was above the expected level of 56.5 and signaled an improvement in conditions for the tenth consecutive month.

In the Asian trading today, the pound held steady against its major rivals.

In the European trading, the pound fell to a 2-1/2-month low of 0.8755 against the euro and more than a 2-month low of 1.2441 against the Swiss franc, from early highs of 0.8714 and 1.2507, respectively. If the pound extends its downtrend, it is likely to find support around around 0.88 against the euro and 1.23 against the franc.

Against the U.S. dollar, the pound dropped to 1.2829 from an early high of 1.2892. The pound may test support near the 1.25 region.

The pound edged down to 142.53 against the yen, from an early 5-day high of 143.22. On the downside, 140.00 is seen as the next support level for the pound.

Looking ahead, Canada and U.S. manufacturing PMI for May, U.S. weekly jobless claims for the week ended May 27, U.S. ADP private sector jobs data for May, U.S. construction spending for April, and U.S. crude oil inventories data are slated for release in the New York session.

At 8:00 am ET, Federal Reserve Board Governor Jerome Powell is expected to speak on Normalization of Monetary Policy to the Economic Club of New York.

Adp Employment Report Preview

http://ift.tt/eA8V8J

ADP employment data to be released at 12:15 GMT is today’s most vital dockets from the US to be watched by market participants. This report is one of the key data that investors will use to gauge US economic strength.

What is ADP employment?

  • The report is a measure of non-farm private sector employment which is obtained by utilizing an anonymous subset of roughly 400,000 U.S. businesses which are clients of ADP.
  • This data is a very good measure of employment strength of the economy and a good precursor of Nonfarm payroll data.

Past performance –

  • Non-farm private sector employment grew at 177,000 in April. In March payroll grew by 263,000.
  • Small business sector hiring at 61,000 in April.
  • Midsized companies added 78,000 jobs.
  • Large companies added 38,000 jobs last month.
  • Employment in franchise increased by 5,400.
  • 11,000 jobs added in the manufacturing sector.
  • 3,000 jobs were added in the natural resources and mining sector.
  • 12,000 jobs were added in the goods-producing sector.
  • Construction sector lost 2,000 jobs.
  • Leisure and hospitality sector added 35,000 jobs.
  • 2,000 jobs were added in financial activities.
  • Services sector remains the major job provider. Payroll added 165,000 people in April.

Expectation Today –

  • The headline number is expected to rise to 185,000 as per median estimate.

Market Impact –

  • Any gain above 230,000 will be considered to be very good and the US stock market would rise further on risk-affinity, along with a recovery in the dollar. The dollar index is currently trading at 97.1, up 0.2 percent for the day so far.
  • Data below 150,000 likely to give rise to concerns regarding US economic prowess and doubts would emerge on manufacturing revival under Trump.
