Which is better: Following a handful of stocks or scanning for certain setups on all?

I’m curious if people lean one way or the other and degree of success each method. Basically, do you follow a basket of stocks that you watch every day and become familiar with how they move and only trade from those stocks? Or do you have a setup preference you like and just scan for that setup on any stock?

I personally am one of the “follow a handful of stocks” people. There’s probably 10-15 stocks on my watch list I look through every day and probably 90% of my trading are those stocks I closely follow. Of course, if I see something I like on another equity I’ll watch it for a bit and decide to jump in but I mostly trade the same basket.

I don’t know if one is better than another, just curious what other people thing?
