What is the fundamental difference between sexual and asexual reproduction for evolution of neural networks?

I’ve been using basic asexual reproduction with my neural networks with minor mutations through an evolutionary process. In this video (linked to proper time), the creator uses sexual reproduction, combining the DNA of two parents before mutation.

On the most fundamental basic level, how can drawing traits from two parents rather than one, sexual reproduction rather than asexual, improve evolutionary results?
