Stocks to Watch: Best Buy, Sears Holding, Signet Jewelers

Among the companies with shares expected to trade actively in Thursday’s session are Best Buy, Sears Holding and Signet Jewelers

Best Buy raised its profit and sales outlook after posting first-quarter earnings of 20 cents a share above consensus. The electronics retailer delivered comparable-sales growth for the 11th consecutive quarter, bucking wider retail trends. Shares rose 13.82% to $57.39 in premarket trading.

Sears Holding reported its loss continued to deepen in the first quarter, though less than expected. Adjusted loss per share fell to $2.15 from $1.86 a year earlier. Shares rose 13.79% to $8.50 premarket.

Signet Jewelers widely missed quarterly earnings expectations with same-store sales falling 11.5%, pressured by the later timing of the Mother’s Day holiday. Shares fell 7.12% to $50.65 premarket.

Vulcan Materials is buying Aggregates USA LLC from SPO Partners for $900 million.

Rayonier Advanced Materials is buying Tembec

Toronto-Dominion Bank on Thursday said earnings for its latest quarter jumped 22%, boosted by volume growth in its Canadian retail business.

Shares in HP rose 4% premarket after the maker of PCs and printers late Wednesday reported better-than-expected quarterly results.

Hormel Foods is down 1.2% after it reported a fiscal second-quarter net profit of $210.9 million, or 39 cents a share, on revenue of $2.19 billion. Both were below consensus estimates.
