Berkshire-Hathaway: Life after Buffett

http://ift.tt/eA8V8J

Warren Buffett is one of my all time heroes. I love his story, his style, his mannerisms and, most of all, what he has been able to accomplish with Berkshire.

Almost any story you read about Berkshire will talk about how Buffett’s eventual death will negatively impact $BRK.A and $BRK.B shares. While the BRK board has been somewhat coy with their plans, I think it is safe to say that they have a plan. I’d love to know your guys’ thoughts on what life after Buffett looks like.

I believe that, upon his death, BRK will finally declare a dividend. Warren has famously steered away from this because he believes that he can deploy capital better than the shareholders of BRK. I think that’s a big indication that in life-after-Buffett, Berkshire will release this capital to investors.

Another tell of a dividend after Warren is his constant warnings in his letters to shareholders that, as Berkshire grows, it is becoming exceedingly difficult for the company to move the needle compared to the market at large. This would hint that it would be wise for investors (who are considerably smaller than Berkshire) to be better positioned to deploy capital than Berkshire-Hathaway at large.

What do you guys think? Do you think the stock will tank in the absence of Warren or will it be an opportunity for smaller investors to use BRK as their engine for growth?
