I’m a full time CTO at a small but successful startup. I’ve been making below my market value for two years, and I’m getting tired of the grind.
I’ve spoken to some guys in my network who run consulting firms, and they’ve offered to get me clients as a fractional CTO. Doing the simple math, I could make as much money as I do today working (or at least billing) 20 hours a week with 4 weeks of vacation a year. That’s very tempting.
So those of you who do consulting part time or full time, how is it? What are the pros and cons of this path compared to a full time startup grind? What important things might I be overlooking?
