Warren Buffett is helping launch his favorite beverage in China.
The billionaire businessman has lent his likeness to Coca-Cola Co. to assist the soda company in promoting the Chinese release of Cherry Coke. They’re plastering his face on special-edition versions of the drink in the country for a short time.
The stunt seems like a win-win for both Mr. Buffett and Coke.
His Berkshire Hathaway is by far the largest shareholder in Coke, and he’s well known for his voracious Cherry Coke habit. He often drinks several cans of the sugary beverage a day.
And he’s well known in China. Multiple Chinese bidders have paid millions of dollars to win an annual charity auction to have lunch with the “Oracle of Omaha,” and thousands of people have traveled to Berkshire’s annual meeting from China in recent years. When Berkshire webcast the meeting for the first time last year, a simultaneous translation was provided in only one language: Mandarin.

In a promotional article on Coke’s website, a marketing director named Shelly Lin said that employees “honestly were surprised when Mr. Buffett agreed to the idea.” But she said that he’s been “selling well” in China.
Berkshire shareholders will have a chance to buy the limited-run cans at Berkshire’s next annual meeting.
