CarMax (
KMX) tumbled to the bottom of the
S&P 500 today as car companies cratered on
disappointing auto sales data, and
Barron's Bill Alpert panned the stock over the weekend. CarMax dropped 4.3% to $56.67 today, while the S&P 500 declined 0.2%. Joining CarMax among the S&P 500's five worst performers were
O'Reilly Automotive (
ORLY),
BorgWarner (
BWA), and
AutoNation (
AN). which fell 4.1%, 3.5%, and 3.4% respectively. The
