RBA Rate Decision On Tap For Tuesday

The Reserve Bank of Australia will wrap up its monetary policy meeting on Tuesday and then announce its decision on interest rates, highlighting a busy day for Asia-Pacific economic activity.

The RBA is widely expected to keep its benchmark lending rate unchanged at 1.50 percent.

Australia also will see February trade figures, with the trade balance expected to show a surplus of A$1.70 billion - up from A$1.302 billion in January.

South Korea will release March numbers for consumer prices. In February, overall CPI was up 0.3 percent on month and 1.9 percent on year, while core CPI added 0.2 percent on month and 1.5 percent on year.

Japan will see March figures for monetary base; in February, the base surged 21.4 percent.

The Philippines will release February numbers for producer prices and March numbers for consumer prices.

Producer prices in January were flat on month and up 2.0 percent on year. Consumer prices in February were up 0.3 percent on month and 3.3 percent on year.

Thailand will provide March data for consumer prices. In February, overall CPI was up 0.04 percent on month and 1.4 percent on year, while core CPI added 0.02 percent on month and 0.6 percent on year.

Finally, the markets in Hong Kong, Taiwan and China are off until Wednesday for Tomb Sweeping Day.
