Online language school, can’t get customers!

http://ift.tt/eA8V8J

I have for the past year and 4 months been working on an online language school website and web application. We officially “launched” in january… yesterday I released some key features that have been missing. Before January 2016 I had very little programming experience so it has taken extra long because I have had to teach myself to code from scratch. We are bootstrapping this business with $0 so cash is very restricted.

Problem: For all that work, get this, we have ONE customer. I am fully ashamed.

Our value proposition works like this: We offer a 20 minute free lesson to place the persons english level and give out a certificate as well as sell them on purchasing a course. Trouble is that either people book the free lesson and then don’t pick up the phone, or do the lesson but don’t convert.

We had 391 unique visitors in march. Since launching we have had about 30 bookings for the free lesson… and only one paying customer (who, I may add, was already the cofounders student!)

Currently we spend 30 euros a month on google adwords in addition to social media posting. We direct contacted hundereds of emails on linkedin but go no responses.

Our courses come in 25 minute (12.30eur) and 50 minute ($24eur) versions

Our competitive advantages are these: we are based in a foreign country where we have better direct access to our ideal market. We have access to our most important resource, an almost unlimited supply of high quality teachers. I have a decent MVP and brand that has taken a year of work, but which I am pretty pleased with.

We have had a few calls since launching yesterday so I am feeling a bit more optimistic… but I am feeling stuck with regards to REVENUE. It’s shocking!
