Meet Oath: the new company made up of Yahoo and AOL

Yahoo is as good as gone, but today new details emerged as to what's next for the once-great web giant after its acquisition by Verizon closes once and for all.

As first reported by Business Insider and later confirmed by AOL boss Tim Armstrong, Yahoo and AOL are set to become a single company under a brand-new name: Oath.

Oath will encompass AOL, which Verizon owns, and the parts of Yahoo the US carrier is purchasing for several billion dollars, namely its search, mail, content and ad-tech branches, as reported by BI.

The other bits of Yahoo that aren't being carried over in the transition will be renamed Altaba. This company will be comprised of Yahoo's shares in Chinese e-retail powerhouse Alibaba and Yahoo Japan. Altaba will be an investment company, an empty shell through which the shares are held.
