March Job Cut Report Due Thursday, April 6

The shortest month of the year saw a decline in layoff announcements, as US-employers announced plans to cut 36,957 jobs in February, 19 percent fewer than the 45,934 cuts announced in January. Last month’s total was 40 percent lower than the 61,599 cuts announced in February 2016. Employers have announced 82,891 job cuts so far this year, a 40 percent decline from the 136,713 job cuts announced through February of last year. The report on March job cuts will be released by global outplacement consultancy Challenger, Gray & Christmas, Inc. on Thursday, April 6 at 7:30 a.m. ET.

March CEO Report Due Wednesday, April 12

Turnover among the nation’s chief executive officers fell to the lowest level in almost 13 years last month as US-companies announced 72 CEO changes. Last month’s total was 43 percent lower than the 128 chief executives who left their posts in January, and 17 percent lower than February 2016, when 87 CEOs announced their departures. February’s total is the lowest monthly total since December 2004 when 56 CEOs left their posts. So far this year, companies have announced 200 CEO exits, 8 percent more than the 218 CEOs who left their posts through February 2016.The Challenger report on March CEO turnover will be released Wednesday, April 12, at 10:00 a.m. ET.
